17-Jul-2017

Ruth Irene (Tobey) Wanser, of Moore, OK, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 16, 2017 at the age of 94. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother, she will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

Ruth was born December 29, 1922, to Irvin Tobey Sr. and Johanna [Schallerer] Tobey in Chicago, Illinois, where she grew up, and after graduating from high school, attended Junior College, and went on to work as a dispatcher for the Bellwood Illinois Police and Fire Department. She was introduced to her future husband, Raymond Wanser, by her brother while they were serving together in the U.S. Army during World War II. After marrying Ray, they settled in the Chicago area and raised three children David, Thomas and Ruthann.

After Ray’s retirement, they moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina where they enjoyed making new friends, traveling, and church activities. It was during this time they became spiritual parents to Wilbur and Donnie Grubb and adopted grandparents to their children.

In 1992 Ray and Ruth decided it was time to move closer to their kids, and settled in the Moore area. During their years in Moore, they were active with the Senior group at Crossroads Church and Cleveland County Senior Centers.

Ruth relished her time with family, she enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader and loved all kinds of puzzles. We may never know how many lives Ruth impacted, but we know she was a surrogate mother to many, and wasn’t afraid to offer her no-nonsense Godly advice.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Dave Wanser and wife, Debra; Tom Wanser; and daughter, Ruth Wanser. She has five grandchildren, Erin Romero, Kelly Wanser Frank, Kim Lebien, Mark Wallace and Karen Pruett; 12 great-grandchildren and a spiritual daughter, Diana Arbes.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Johanna Tobey; her husband of 60 years, Ray; and her two brothers, Irvin Jr. and Bruce Tobey.

Our family would like to thank Golden Age Hospice for their loving care and support, as well as those who took special care of Ruth while she lived in Sommerset Assisted Neighborhood.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 18, 2017 in the chapel of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home, located at 120 South Broadway, in Moore, OK. Interment to follow at Moore Cemetery, Moore, OK, with Rev. Gary Bohanon officiating. Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel.

I have been blessed to have met Ruth and am thankful to have experienced her on several occasions. Her cute infectious smile would brighten anyone and cause them to smile. Much honor to what these last months have required, and may the Lord bless that there are no regrets as she has now gone home.

Ruth and Family, Please accept my most heartfelt sympathies for your loss... My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. Your Mom was a very sweet lady with a heart of gold. When I bought my house down the street from her, she cleaned out her own cabinets and gave me her corning-ware as a house warming gift. She would not take No for an answer. She and your dad would go for walks around the neighborhood and would always stop and check on me and my boys. When she was unable to walk the neighborhood any longer, I walked to check on her and took my granddaughter with me. She was always so happy to see us and always greeted us with a smile. I will forever remember her and her kindness. Sincerely, Lynda McIntosh
