18-Apr-2017

Our mother Claudia Johnson was born in Albany, Oklahoma on July 30th, 1926. She was the second of nine children. Her older sister Fern was more like a twin in age and responsibility as they were capable little girls who helped their mother and father raise the next seven! Only two remain on this earth, her brother Billy of the Dallas area and her sister Karen of Ft. Worth.

Albany is a small town outside Durant, and so later Claudia attended Southeastern University where she felt privileged to serve as the secretary of the Methodist Church. Her future husband Argus was busy commuting between seminary in Dallas and small town Boswell, when one day he happened to stop by at the half-way point and visit the pastor of Durant's church. At some point, the pastor made a comment that he knew a young lady who would sure make a good minister's wife, and all of a sudden 65 years were in the making.

Claudia was a classic minister's wife of the World War II generation of men who came back, married, and started families of babies so numerous the era was termed "The Baby Boom." She remained a diligent supporter of her husband's leadership in local churches of towns such as Spiro, Stroud, The Village, Ponca City, Muskogee, Bartlesville, and Ardmore. She had a giant pastoral heart which assisted her husband's preaching and administrative abilities, allowing them to be a complimentary pair for Christ. Everywhere they went people sensed and experienced her gift of sensitivity to their problems, needs, joys, and sorrows.

As far as the three of us are concerned....she made a good mother as well. She led the family's home life and loved us with all she had. She sacrificed as most mothers do in giving us the security to venture to Kindergarten and beyond towards our future hopes and dreams.

Her mother Velma and father Fred, her sisters Fern and Norma Jean, and her brothers Ben, Wayne, Larry, and Ray are pride-filled of the way she spent her days as they welcome her back to the family reunion in the everlasting location of love and life.

Claudia was a best friend, like a second sister, my right hand. We laughed and cried together. Memories to many, but today there was a great reunion in heaven with J.C., Argus and Claudia. I miss her and send love to the family.

Our deepest condolences. I loved Claudia like she was my grandmother. I'll forever cherish her and Argus' memories and how much they benefited my life. Claudia was a real hero to me.

Claudia was loved by me, my husband and my children. She was my friend, my "Aunt Claudia", our shopping buddy, card player. We laughed, we sang, we cried, she held my hand, we lived life together. The family vacation, annual conference, and memories to many to count will always remain dear to my heart. I will always love you Claudia! My prayers are extended to Jimmy, Billie and Marijean.

I loved Claudia like a sister. She took me under her wing as a young Preachers wife and were so close throughout the years. As we both grew older didn't get to see each other, but kept in touch by phone and an occasional lunch out. My prayers are with your family. Now she and Argus and Joe are together.

A cousin of mine who attended the Reunion in Albany, OK called me this morning and told me of my cousin Claudia's passing away. Claudia and Fern were two sweet older cousins of mine; the next girl down - in her family was more my age. Claudia's Dad and my Dad were Brothers. I hope that she left this Earth without pain and hopefully I can hear from family members. Alice..
